Hanger Hall, an independent all-girls school serving students in grades 6-8, is seeking a visionary and dynamic Head of School to begin in the 2025-2026 academic year. Located in the vibrant city of Asheville, North Carolina, Hanger Hall has been a cornerstone of middle school education for 26 years. The school’s mission is to nurture the academic, social, and emotional development of each student, fostering confidence, individuality, creativity, and leadership.

Position Summary:
The Head of School is the primary leader, visionary, and administrative officer of Hanger Hall. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Head of School is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the school. This includes fostering a welcoming, innovative, and collaborative community, while inspiring and guiding the school toward its strategic goals. The Head will serve as a visible and positive role model for students, faculty, and families, and will cultivate meaningful relationships within and beyond the school community.
Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership: Inspire and articulate a shared vision for the school’s future. Guide the development and implementation of strategic plans.

Educational Excellence: Oversee and support the implementation of a robust and innovative curriculum and school program.

Community Building: Foster a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment for students, faculty, families, and alumni.

Faculty Leadership: Recruit, supervise, and mentor faculty and staff, cultivating a culture of professional growth and collaboration.

Development & Fundraising: Creates and implements development plan, raises funds, manages grants, and builds relationships with donors

Operational Management: Ensure the school’s financial health and operational effectiveness, including budgeting, fundraising, admissions, and facility management.
Qualifications:

Proven experience as an educator and leader in an independent or similar school setting (5+ years of administrative experience preferred).

A graduate degree in education, leadership, business, psychology or a related field preferred.

Strong understanding of the developmental needs of adolescent girls and the philosophy of single-gender education.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a talent for collaboration, communication, and relationship-building.

Demonstrated success in strategic planning, financial management, and institutional advancement.

Personal qualities that model the school’s values: balance, creativity, compassion, flexibility, integrity, humor, and a sense of adventure.

Personnel management, including recruitment, supervision, and mentoring.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: Base salary starting at $80,000 commensurate with experience; reasonable relocation expenses considered where applicable.

Benefits: Retirement plan, paid leave, healthcare, and FLEX benefits.

Bonus: Annual Bonus potential of $3,000-$5,000 as determined by the Board of Directors.
