Welcome to the Lab: Comics and Visual Storytelling Camp - with Izzy
Two different weeks! June 2-6 (for rising 5th-8th grade) and June 23-27th (for rising 6th-9th grade)
9:00am - 3:00pm Cost: $380
What do you get when you mix words with pictures? It’s COMICS CAMP and it’s back and better than ever. Study how words and pictures mix and find the special ingredients that make your imagination go BOOM! In the comics laboratory, we will study the unique chemistry of text, image and visual storytelling. We’ll make comics, read comics, eat snacks, play music, and get time outside in the sunshine. You will leave with a toolkit of new skills, new ideas and new art supplies to keep! Oh, and a bunch of awesome comics that you and your fellow campers made.
(Cost includes a $15 lab fee that covers a sketchbook, nib, nib holder and pen for each camper to keep.)

It’s Alive! Art That Moves: Animation and Music Videos Camp - with Izzy
June 9-13th - 9:00am- 3:00pm
Rising 6th - 9th grade; $365
Breathe life into your art and make your pictures move! Izzy has been an animator for over a decade; in this camp she will share the magical secrets of moving images. Learn how to create hand-drawn animations, stop-motion, flipbooks, gifs and more. We will use a variety of tools to make moving pictures of all kinds and then transform them with sound and music. We will also learn about the history of animation and the artists who create movies we love. Snacks, art supplies, good tunes and good times included. All you need to bring is your imagination and some patience.
(Animation materials - like a lightbox and peg bar can be purchased at cost at the end of camp so your camper can keep animating at home. Approx. $30 to purchase.)
Fashion Week: Custom Clothing and Upcycling Camp - with Izzy
June 16-20 - 9:00am- 3:00pm
Rising 5th - 8th grade; Cost: $385
Do you have a hard time finding clothing that is cool enough for YOU to wear?! Don’t worry - now you can make them yourself! In this camp, we will experiment with stencils, stamps, dying, painting and printing to find inventive methods for decorating and upcycling clothing. Express your vision on bandanas, bags and t-shirts. Izzy will even bring in her airbrush setup and campers will get a chance to try out airbrushing. Get ready to make your fashion dreams come true!
PHOTO POP! - with Shawn
July 7-July 11 - 9:00am-3:00pm
Rising 3rd-5th grade; Cost: $375
Attendees should expect a week full of hands-on digital, analog, and instant photo making.
We’ll explore what makes a great photo, create backgrounds for photoshoots, and even use
professional photo lighting and equipment!
ARTY PARTY! - with Shawn and Kora
July 21-July 25 - 9:00am-4:00pm
Rising 1st-4th grade; Cost: $350
Attendees should expect a week full of visual art, lots of smiles, and maximum joy! Everyday will be a different creative adventure mixed with a little outdoor magic. We’ll end the week with an awesome art gallery showing. Come get your arty on!
Crafty Hoopla - with Kizzi and Beth
August 11-15 - 9:00am-4:00pm
Rising 5th-8th grade; Cost: $400
Students should expect a week filled with crafting, nature exploring, and game playing. We will spend our days adventuring around the Asheville area while collecting inspiration from and natural materials for our various crafts. This camp is all about playing and having fun while creating beautiful nature inspired art.
