Teacher Spotlight: Katie Connor

Our first teacher spotlight is Katie Conner, our fantastic Spanish & 6th-grade Humanities teacher. The 2021-2022 school year will be her 16th year teaching at Hanger Hall.

Her favorite book right now is called A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes. It tells the story of the Iliad and the Odyssey from the perspective of women.

In describing the Hanger Hall community, she uses the words supportive, playful, and open-minded. She adds that the Hanger Hall community is impactful because the relationships and connections that our students create with one another are really special. Their ability to express themselves as they choose without the typical distractions of school is unique. As we continue to challenge ideas around gender identity, she is grateful that the Hanger Hall community continues to grow by fostering a safe and inclusive place for all of our students, whether they identify as a girl or not.

Her advice to prospective families is to let your child lead. Do they want to be a part of our school community? If they are interested and enthusiastic about attending Hanger Hall, then we are most likely a great fit!

Her advice to graduating 8th graders is that each student has left a mark on the Hanger Hall community that will be a part of us forever. Always remember the impact you have on those around you and use that power for good.
